Xinyun Zhang is a media artist working at the intersection of sound, technology, visual media, and spatial experience. Her practice explores the translation between different forms of media and perception, creating situations in which sound, image, movement, and space interact and transform one another.
Her works take forms ranging from interactive installations and audiovisual environments to experimental instruments and live performance. Technology often functions as a connective structure within these works, allowing sound, image, physical objects, performers, and audiences to influence one another in real time.
Zhang studied Digital Media Art at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, developing a multidisciplinary practice across design, moving image, interaction, and spatial media. During an exchange in Media Art at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design (HfG Karlsruhe), her engagement with the Sound program brought sound and experimental electronic practices into increasing focus. She is currently studying Klang & Realität at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf.
